Utilization of Ash from Thermal Decomposition of Rice Straw as a Natural Dye

Indonesia is among the largest countries in global rice production. Annual generation of straw about 20 million tons were reported. It therefore, utilization as natural dye considered to minimize pollutant problem. Rice composed 48.7% carbon that generate black color. In this research, dyes ash applied cotton and rayon fabrics, followed by mordanting using lime, alum, ferrous sulphate. The color intensity fastness fabrics dyed extract was investigated. found system sulphate mordant produced lightest color; alum treatment a darker while darkest provided lime mordant.
